Main accused in Bengal nun gang-rape case arrested

Kolkata, May 8 (IBNS) Milon Sarkar, the main accused in the sensational gang-rape of an elderly nun in West Bengal's Nadia district has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The CID apprehended Milan and his accomplice  Ahidul Islam Babu from Sealdah station late on Thursday night.

Earlier  CID had arrested two other persons  in connection with the case.

The septugenarian nun was raped by a gang of seven dacoits inside a Convent in Gangnapur village of Nadia district  on March 14, 2015 after the miscreants looted Rs. 12 lakh and valuables.

The Sister Superior of the convent was admitted to a hospital in Ranaghat and was discharged on  March 20.

The incident triggered a massive outrage among the locals and sent a shockwave across the country.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took suo motu cognisance of the case and issued a notice to the West Bengal government.
