Mamata Banerjee acted as barrier to Bengal's developmental activities: BJP chief JP Nadda

Kolkata/IBNS: Almost in tune with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Speed-Breaker Didi" jibe in 2019, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national president Jagar Prakash Nadda on Tuesday accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for acting as a barrier to the development activities in poll-bound West Bengal.

Launching "Poriborton Yatra" in Jhargram, which benefited the saffron camp in the 2019 General Elections, Nadda said, "From East-West Metro to roads to Freight Corridor to pools to transfer money to 3.5 crore people via DBT and more, PM Modi is committed to helping the people in Bengal."

"Mamata Ji has always acted as a barrier in developmental activities in West Bengal. She used to say 'Maa, Maati, Manush' before she became the CM - 'Maa' was never respected, 'Maati' wasn't protected and 'Manush' weren't taken care of!"

Accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress of being involved in corruption, Nadda said Banerjee's party men looted the food grains sent by the Centre during the Covid-19 lockdown.

"Adivasi women of Jhargram aren't safe! PM Modi sends cheap rice, but Mamata Di fails to send it to people here. 8 people lost their lives due to hunger in Jangal Mahal. This is the current situation in Bengal," he said.

"The Trinamool's politics of polarization, autocracy, corruption & cut-money, breeds corruption. Mamata Ji, the people of Bengal will not forgive you and will teach you the apt lesson. They will show you the door and bring in the govt that works for the people of Bengal," the BJP chief added.

Earlier in the day, Nadda, who landed in West Bengal only on Tuesday, prayed to God in Tarapith Temple and held a rally where also Banerjee's Trinamool was targeted over the corruption issue.

He said, "The Trinamool has resorted to corruption & earning money even from tragedy. PM Modi provided Rs 1,000 crore first and then Rs 1,750 crore as relief measures post-Amphan. The Trinamool looted it and the HC ordered the Govt to get it audited from CAG. She went to the Hon'ble SC to challenge the order!"

Accusing Banerjee of blocking the Centre's health scheme which provides free treatment worth Rs. 5 lakh to people, Nadda said, "4.66 crore people of Bengal have not received health cover worth Rs 5 lakh under Ayushman Bharat. We assure that you will get all benefits of Ayushman Bharat as soon as you form a BJP government in the state."

West Bengal's health scheme Swastha Sathi, which was launched before Ayushman Bharat, has now been extended to each family of the state for free treatment worth maximum Rs. five lakh by the Trinamool government.
