Mamata Banerjee brings rejig at top level of bureaucracy in West Bengal

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday brought a rejig at the top level of bureaucracy in her state.

Banerjee has announced the appointment of Alapan Bandyopadhyay, who is serving as the Additional Chief Secretary (Home and Information), as the new CS of the state effective from Oct 1.

Finance Secretary HK Dwivedi will replace Bandyopadhyay as the Home Secretary while Manoj Pant will become the new Finance Secretary from Oct 1.

The CM tweeted, "I'm pleased to announce that Alapan Bandyopadhyay, now Addnl Chief Secy (Home & Information) is appointed as the new Chief Secretary of WB. H K Dwivedi, hitherto Finance Secy, will be new Home Secy & Manoj Pant takes charge of Finance w.e.f. 1st Oct. Best wishes to (the) entire team."

She added, "I would also like to announce that outgoing Chief Secretary of West Bengal Shri Rajiva Sinha, has now been appointed the Chairman of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation for a period of 3 years w.e.f 1st October. I thank him for his tireless service to the Government of West Bengal."

Sinha, the outgoing CS, will reportedly retire from his post on Sept 30.

The major rejig at the top level of the state's bureaucracy came with months to go to the next assembly elections, which is scheduled to be conducted by May 2021 if not delayed due to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.
