Mamata Banerjee did right thing by gifting PM Modi with kurtas: Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh

Kolkata, Apr 25 (IBNS): Ignoring the jibes by the Left-Congress, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh on Thursday supported West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for gifting Prime Minister Narendra Modi with kurtas and sweets.

In a non-political interview with Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, Modi on Wednesday said "Mamata Didi" is used to gift him with her own selected kurtas once or twice a year and also sweets, while speaking about his terms with the opposition leaders.

Reacting to the revelation, Ghosh on Thursday said: "The Chief Minister has done the right thing. Even she had called me to ask about my health when I was unwell. She is our Chief Minister and also our guardian. No one is our enemy. This behaviour should be maintained. We should fight on the basis of issues."

Mamata Banerjee, who also heads West Bengal's ruling Trinamool Congress, on Thursday said: "I used to gift lot of people but I don't speak about it. This is our culture."

Hitting out at the main rival party BJP a day ago, Banerjee had said: "We will give sweets to BJP but not vote."

The Left and Congress, which have been relegated to the third and fourth positions respectively by the BJP in recent by-polls, did not miss an opportunity to reiterate that the Trinamool and Ghosh's party are having an understanding in the state.

Both West Bengal Congress president Somen Mitra and CPI-M leader Surya Kanta Mishra alleged that the Trinamool and BJP are working together in the state.

Modi and Banerjee- the two veteran politicians- are having a bitter terms in the political arena in the course of the Lok Sabha polls. While Modi is calling Banerjee a "speed breaker" to development, the latter terms the Prime Minister as "jhoota (false)".

Also Ghosh on Thursday said his party, BJP, is confident in winning at least 23 seats from West Bengal in the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

"We are winning seven to eight out of 10 seats which were polled in the first three phases. The Trinamool is yet to open its account," the state BJP chief said.
