Mamata drops 2 ministers, shifts 2 others

Kolkata, May 27 (IBNS): In a major reshuffle of the West Bengal Cabinet, state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday dropped two ministers and shifted Bratya Basu to take charge of the Tourism Department.

Bratya Basu, who held the education portfolio, will now lead the Tourism Department.

"Bratya Basu will now take charge of the Tourism Department," the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party, which leads the government is West Bengal posted on its website.

The education department will now be looked after by Minister for Legislative Affairs Partha Chatterjee.

Banerjee dropped Sabitri Mitra and Subrata Saha who held Social Welfare Department and Public Works respectively.

The TMC said that Shashi Panja will now take additional charge of the Social Welfare Department.

Krishnendu Narayan Chowdhury from Malda district, who held the Tourism Portfolio, has been shifted to Food Processing and Horticulture Department.

"Krishendu Narayan Chowdhury will take over as the Minister for Food Processing and Horticulture," the party posted.

Meanwhile,  Minister for Finance and Commerce & Industry Amit Mitra, has been allotted the charge of Information & Technology portfolio.

The ministers will take charge of their new departments very soon.
