Mamata extends support to Robert Vadra, says "Opposition stands together"

Kolkata/ New Delhi, Feb 6 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who sat on dharna to counter the Central Bureau of Investigation's move against Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, on Wednesday has extended her support to Robert Vadra, who is the brother-in-law of Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

On being asked about the Enforcement Directorate's questioning of Vadra on Wednesday evening in connection with a money laundering case, Mamata said: "We are united, we are together."

The case on Vadra involves the purchase and possession of certain immovable assets in London.

The West Bengal Chief Minister Vadra is he is being subjected to "unwarranted, unjustified and malicious criminal prosecution" due to political reasons.

"There is no serious case, nothing. Just sending the notice casually to everybody. So we stand together, we are united, we are together. We will walk together," she said.

This is an indication that Mamata is also considering the hand of friendship from Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

Rahul Gandhi had earlier supported Mamata during her sit-in protest and tweeted "we stand shoulder to shoulder with her."

Mamata has been the chief architect in giving a shape to the United Alliance of opposition leaders against Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Last month, she held a mega rally where 23 opposition parties' representatives were present in Kolkata.

Even during her sit-in-protest in Kolkata, she received the support of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, DMK's Kanimozhi, RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav, NCP's Sharad Pawar, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and National Conference's Farooq Abdullah.
