Kolkata, May 16 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday thanked the people of the state for her party's strong performance in the Lok Sabha polls.

"I thank the people of the state for the result we saw today," Banerjee told media.

"Trinamool stands for economic stability and works for people of all caste, creed and religion," she said.

She said her party will continue to work for the people of the West Bengal.

"Trinamool works for the people. We will continue to work for the poor people," Banerjee said.

As counting of votes cast in the Lok Sabha polls continued on Friday, Banerjee's TMC was seen leading in 34 seats in West Bengal.

The Left Front is ahead in two seats while the Congress and the BJP are ahead in four and two seats respectively.

Trends on Friday showed a NDA government in New Delhi under Narendra Modi is now almost a reality.
