Man discharged after quarantine in Delhi tests Covid-19 positive in Odisha
Bhubaneswar/UNI: Odisha government today confirmed the first coronavirus case after a 33-year-old research student, returned from Italy and admitted in the Capital Hospital here, tested covid- 19 positive last night.
The patient, who was doing research in Italy, returned to Bhubaneswar from Delhi on March 12 and was admitted in the Capital Hospital after he was found suffering from cold, cough with fever.
Odisha government Chief spokesman on coronavirus Subrat Bagchi today confirmed that the patient tested positive by the RMRC centre and he is now undergoing treatment at the Capital Hospital.
The state government, he said has started tracking the details of his contacts, journey from New Delhi to Bhubaneswar and the family members of the youth have been kept under strict home isolation to prevent further spread of the dreaded disease.
Official sources said, the youth, a resident of Capital city, had returned from Italy to India on March 6 last and was put into quarantine in Delhi from where he was discharged on March 12. The youth returned to Bhubaneswar by Rajdhani Express.
The youth was admitted in the isolation ward of the Capital Hospital and his blood and swab samples were sent to Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC) here which found that he was tested Covid -19 positive.
Doctors at Capital Hospital informed that the health condition of the youth was stable and he has no other complication.
The state government, Mr Bagchi said, will track the persons whom the youth has contacted right from his journey from Delhi to Bhubaneswar and also in the state capital.
The authorities of various districts on Sunday cancelled the leaves of government employees of the State to combat the possibility of any spread in novel-Coronavirus (Covid19) disease.
The Police Commissioner of Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has issued temporary closure notice to all shopping malls operating in both the cities in the wake of youth tested covid-19 positive.
