Manipur: Repoll taking place smoothly

Imphal, Apr 24 (UNI): Repolling is underway in 12 polling stations of Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency (IMPC) on Wednesday.

Voting began at 7 am and 16 per cent voting was recorded after the first two hours of voting.

Re-election process is going on peacefully and there is no news of any untoward incident.

At 11 am the poll percentage had reached 40 per cent. The repoll process will be over by 4 pm.

The repolls were done under tight security in the constituencies of Chief Minister N Biren, Minister Works Th Biswajit and Minister Forest, Th Shyamkumar.

The repolls were done at 2/23-Heingang Mayai Leikai (A), 2/26-Heingang Makha Leikai, 2/31-Kairang Muslim Mayai Leikai, 2/32-Kairang Muslim Mamang Leikai and 2/33-Kairang Khunou Chingya Leikai under 2-Heingang A/C; 5/32-Khongman Zone-V (B) under 5-Thongju assembly constituency; 6/6-Kiyamgei Mamang Leikai, 6/10-Kiyamgei Muslim (South) (A), 6/20-Urup Muslim and 6/35-Thiyam Konjil (B) under 6-Keirao assembly constituency; 7/32-Yambem (C) and 7/39-Nungbrang under 7-Andro assembly constituency.

At least one platoon of central armed police force and one platoon of state police has been deployed in each polling station. Officers of the rank of SDC and above are working as presiding officers.

All the polling stations are being webcasted live and CCTV cameras have been installed in all polling stations to be directly monitored from the control rooms.

Communist Party of India candidate Dr M. Nara, Indian National Congress candidate O. Nabakishore, and Independent candidate RK Kaiku had alleged malpractices in the polling stations in the elections held on April 18 last.
