Manish Sisodia to lead AAP's assembly poll campaign in Delhi and Haryana

New Delhi: Former deputy Delhi CM Manish Sisodia has taken the reins of AAP’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi and Haryana as Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal is still in jail, according to media reports.

Sisodia, who was granted bail by the Supreme Court in connection with corruption and money laundering charges related to the Delhi liquor policy case, is set to hold a meeting with senior party members today.

The 52-year-old was released from Tihar jail on Friday after spending 17 months in custody, giving a boost to AAP, which is still recovering from the setback of Kejriwal's imprisonment in the alleged liquor policy scam.

The AAP leaders' meeting is set to take place at 6 pm at Sisodia's residence.

Assembly elections in Haryana, where AAP has declared its intention to contest all 90 seats, are scheduled for later this year, while the polls in Delhi's 70 constituencies are anticipated in early 2025.

Manish Sisodia, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, has been a central figure in the rise of AAP since its formation following the 2011 anti-corruption movement.

Before stepping down from his cabinet duties, Sisodia managed 18 key portfolios, including education, finance, planning, land and building, vigilance, women and child development, as well as art, culture, and languages, among others.

He resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28, 2023, just two days after being arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged irregularities in the creation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi liquor policy for 2021-22.

Sisodia has been elected to the Delhi Assembly three times, representing the Patparganj constituency in East Delhi.
