Massive fire breaks out in Surat coaching centre, several feared dead

Surat, May 24 (IBNS): A massive fire broke out at a coaching centre in Gujarat's Surat city on Friday, leaving at least seven people dead.

Eighteen fire engines have rushed to the spot to bring the flames under control.

According to some media reports, students were seen jumping down from the building to save their lives.

Some injured people were rushed to nearby hospital for treatment.

Indian PM Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives in the tragedy.

He directed Gujarat government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those hit by the fire tragedy.

"Extremely anguished by the fire tragedy in Surat. My thoughts are with bereaved families. May the injured recover quickly. Have asked the Gujarat Government and local authorities to provide all possible assistance to those affected," Modi tweeted.
