Massive landslides block NH-44 in Meghalaya, thousand vehicles stranded
Guwahati, May 6 (IBNS): Massive landslides on National Highway 44 in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills, connecting Tripura, Mizoram and Assam's Barak valley with the rest of the country, disrupted traffic flow on Sunday.
Over thousand vehicles are stranded on the National Highway following massive landslides at Sunapur area in East Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya on Sunday morning.
There is no report of any untoward incident following landslides.
Due to incessant rains for the last two days, massive landslides occurred along the National Highway 44 at Sunapur area.
The caved in soil and boulders occupied the road, forcing traffic to a halt.
Meanwhile, the East Jaintia Hills district administration is engaged to clear mud and boulders from the road.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places in Meghalaya, Assam and other places of the North Eastern region for next couple of days.
