New Delhi, Feb 4 (IBNS) The Centre on Wednesday sacked Union Home Secretary Anil Goswami on charges that he had called up CBI officials while former Union Minister Matang Sinh, who was arrested last week, was questioned in connection with the Saradha scam, media reports said.

"According to a home ministry official, Goswami accepted he had spoken to the CBI chief at the time of Sinh’s arrest and tried to explain the logic of making the phone call, but the home minister had already spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the two leaders agreed time was up for Goswami," Hindustan Times reported.

“Goswami has been given marching orders by the government and after that he put in his papers,” another home ministry official told the newspaper.

L C Goyal has been appointed in place of Goswami.

Matang Sinh was arrested in Kolkata on Saturday in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam.

The CBI had arrested him after questioning him for more than seven hours.

According to reports, he has been arrested on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and misappropriation of funds.
