Mayawati conducts review meeting of party in MP

Lucknow, July 4 (UNI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Thursday asked for changes to expand the party's base in Madhya Pradesh.

She reviewed party activities in the state with senior party functionaries who submitted a division-wise report to her.

The recent incident of BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya taking law into his own hands and misbehaving with the government officials and workers in Indore also cropped up during the review meeting. Even after he was released on bail, the way in which the BJP leaders garlanded and welcomed the MLA stunned the whole nation and was criticised by everyone, the meeting noted.

In this respect, it was discussed that it remains to be seen how much the BJP's top leadership, especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stern statements will affect the behaviour of the other party members even as the leadership's statements or condemnation of the incidents of mob-lynching, cow-slaughter and mobocracy have had no desired effect, especially in the BJP-ruled states, which is highly unfortunate.

The meeting further resolved to strengthen the party cadres so that the people get associated with a missionary zeal to the party's movement and not for their personal benefits and to continue to fight for justice towards the poor and oppressed people in a peaceful and democratic way.

Initiating essential re-shuffling within the party organisation, Mayawati alleged that the condition of the poor people, labourers, farmers, youths and women and the oppressed classes had not improved in the Congress and BJP regimes to this day and no hope of any such improvement should be expected from them.

The BSP president said that to expand the base of the party among the people, it was important to make them aware that their interests are only secure under the BSP and only then, a government committed to public welfare will be established in the country and the state.
