Meghalaya turns transit route of smuggling wooden logs, coal to Bangladesh
Despite of best efforts put in by vigilant troops of the BSF, the smuggling bid continue unabated through these major rivers in Meghalaya.
Within last two days the BSF has seized huge quantity of wooden logs i.e 142.84 Cft, Bamboo 500 nos and coal 10 tons while being smuggled through Simsang river in area of Baghmara, South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.
Coal and wooden logs are concealed with bamboo rafts.
The timber is marked and tied up with sacks of coal.
The heavily flooded river through pose severe threat to the BSF troops still they jump into the river to foil such illegal acts and catch these heavy rafts.
Similarly, the BSF in a joint operation with forest department seized more than 3000 pieces of bamboo from river Chillai in area of Ryngku, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya few days back.
The BSF troops of Meghalaya Ftr seized 4889.124 Cft wooden logs worth Rs. 1,36,56,440 till Aug 31 during this year.
The seizure was so enormous that it took several days to ascertain the quantity of bamboos.
