Midnight fire guts Kolkata's Jyoti Cinema hall

Kolkata, Oct 2 (IBNS): A massive fire broke out at Jyoti Cinema hall building in Kolkata's downtown Esplanade area on the wee hours of Sunday, triggering scare among the locals, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first noticed at around 2 am. in the cinema hall, which has been shut down for last four years.

As many as 26 fire tender engines, along with hydraulic ladder, rushed to the spot and firemen fought for nearly two hours to bring the blaze under control.

Kolkata Mayor and state Fire Minister Sovan Chatterjee visited the scene and ordered a forensic probe into the incident.

The exact reason behind the fire has not been known so far.

However, no casualty was reported in the incident, while a major portion of city's one of the oldest movie theatres was gutted completely.
