Militant arrested in Assam’s Karbi Anglong, arms seized

Guwahati, May 17 (IBNS): Security forces arrested a militant of the newly floated Tiwa Liberation Army (TLA) with arms and ammunition in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district last night.

Based on intelligence input, the army Sikh regiment and Karbi Anglong district police had jointly launched operation at Ulukunchi area under Baithalangso police station in the hill district and arrested the militant identified as Babu Phangso.

Security personnel had recovered one point 22 mm pistol, four rounds live ammunition, one mobile phone in possession from him.

Police said that, the arrested militant was earlier link with Karbi militant group  Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT).

“The army’s Sikh regiment and police had launched combing operation at Ulukunchi Amguri area. We had received information that a former KPLT cadre Babu Phangso, who later joined Tiwa Liberation Army was there. We had arrested him with a vehicle from the area. We had recovered one point 22 pistol, four rounds live cartridge in possession from him,” a police officer said.
