Militant held with huge cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur

Guwahati, July 14 (IBNS): Security forces had apprehended a militant of Kuki National Front (Military Council) and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Manipur's Churachandpur district.

According to the reports, the 25 Assam Rifles and Churachandpur police apprehended a cadre of Kuki National Front (military council) and recovered assault rifles and other warlike stores while conducting a joint operation from at Thangjing of Churachandpur district.

The recoveries includes one AK-56 rifle with magazine registration number 17261314, one MA3 MK-ii Rifle with magazine registration number 1234567809, one 12 mm bore double barrel gun registration number 417673006, one 12mm Single barrel gun registration number 22089, four radio sets( make Baofeng) dual FM transceiver, four battery radio set(make baofeng) 7.4v/2800 MAH, 30 rounds of 7.63mm Ak-56, 92 rounds of 5.56mm MA3 MK-ii rifles, six 12mm bore cartridges, one mobile handset(MI 6A)along with Airtel SIM, two Jio SIM cards and one military harness.

The commander of 27 sector Assam Rifles brigadier H.R. Desai said that, after receiving information about the kidnapping of chief of Dampi village, Lunkholal Lhungdim, to the hills of Thangjing by some unknown insurgents on July 5, the troops of 25 Assam Rifles and Churachandpur police launched massive operation immediately.

"On July 6 around 2.30 pm the abducted person Lunkholal Lhungdim was released by the abductors. Following his release, the operations continued where the militants were forced to abandon their weapons which were later recovered including five assault rifles and other warlike stores," the official said.

The Assam Rifles official said that security personnel had apprehended a militant identified as Neihmiya along with two assault rifles, two 12 bore guns and four radio sets.
