Militant killed in Kashmir, fierce encounter goes on
According to reports, following a tip-off, security forces launched a search operation in Hyhama Kundinad Batpora area of the district early on Wednesday and came under firing by the militants.
Three militants, holed up in a house, were believed to be engaged in heavy exchange of fire with the forces till the latest reports came.
While security forces shot dead one of the militants, a policeman was injured in the encounter, Defence Spokesman Rajesh Kalia said in Srinagar.
Additional security forces have been rushed to tighten the cordon around the area and foil any attempt by the militants to escape, he said.
