Modi, BJP-RSS not the entire Hindu community: Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha

| @indiablooms | Jul 01, 2024, at 08:37 pm

New Delhi/IBNS: In a fierce faceoff with the ruling party in Parliament, Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Monday called Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its parental organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) not the "entire Hindu community".

"Narendra Modi is not the entire Hindu society. BJP is not the entire Hindu society. RSS is not the entire Hindu society. This is not BJP's contract," said Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

Gandhi had a heated exchange with Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the floor after the former showed Lord Shiva's portrait.

After the Congress MP showed the portrait of Lord Shiva, Speaker Om Birla objected to it saying, "No picture is allowed to be shown in the House."

When Gandhi displayed the portrait again, Shah stood up and said, "All rules of the House are being flouted. Despite being told not to, he keeps showing portraits."

Rahul Gandhi's 'Ayodhya' dig at Modi

Gandhi weaponised the BJP's defeat in the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat, which comprise Ayodhya, to take a dig at Prime Minister Modi, who returned to power a rare third consecutive term in 2024.

"Narendra Modi conducted a survey twice to contest elections from Ayodhya. Those who conducted the survey clearly said – do not contest elections from Ayodhya, the people of Ayodhya will defeat you. That's why Narendra Modi went to Varanasi and escaped from there," the LoP said.

The Faizabad seat had assumed significance as it comprises Ayodhya where Ram Temple is located. Ram Temple has remained a key poll issue for the BJP.

The Ram Temple was inaugurated through a grand ceremony by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January.
