Modi, Shah will decide: BSY's U-turn day after announcing son's candidature in Karnataka polls

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Saturday said the final decision on fielding his son BY Vijayendra in the assembly elections will be taken by BJP's central leadership.

"Yesterday I said my son will fight from Shikaripura constituency, but the final decision will be taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and JP Nadda. Their decision will be final,” he told reporters.

This remark comes a day after Yediyurappa stated that he was vacating the Shikaripura assembly seat to make way for his son in the 2023 assembly elections. "I cannot demand, but can give suggestions," he added.

Addressing a gathering at Shikaripur on Friday, Yediyurappa said, "I am vacating my assembly constituency for my son BY Vijayendra. I request the voters of Shikaripura to ensure his victory by a huge margin."

Earlier, he had rubbished reports that the party had sidelined him.

Reacting to Yediyurappa's "sanyas" from electoral politics, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Friday said the BJP strongman will never retire and tire from politics and the party will fight elections under his guidance. "He is a relentless fighter," he added.

He also said that the central leadership values Yediyurappa's electoral importance.
