Lucknow, Sept 20 (IBNS): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Tuesday appointed Amar Singh as the national general secretary of his party.

This is considered to be a big blow to Mulayam's son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav.

The appointment was made in a hand-written note on Mulayam's letterhead, said reports.

Amar Singh, who was expelled from the party for six years, returned with a big post and is likely to play a prominent role for the Samajwadi Party in the crucial assembly elections in the state early next year.
