Mumbai: Traffic Police issues record 200 challans for not following new rule

Mumbai/IBNS: The Mumbai Traffic Police issued 200 challans to people not wearing back seat belts during the first day of the new rule's enforcement.

The fine has been kept at Rs 200 for individuals found not wearing the rear seatbelt.

The taxi drivers of the city have shown eagerness to adhere to this law but find it hard to implement as most vehicles don't come with three back seat belts.

Mumbai taximen's union head AL Quadros said the postmarket installation is not possible before the deadline, as per a News18.com report.

In some taxis, the seatbelt has either been removed or is placed under the seat, he said, as per the News18 report, while adding that, "It is difficult to get taximen to install new seat belts at such a short notice."

The union leader said he would request officials to exempt the black-yellow coloured taxis from the back seat-belt rule.
