New Delhi, Jan 26 (IBNS): Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday urged people of India to live up to the ideals of the country's Constitution.

India is observing Republic Day on Saturday.

"Our Founding Fathers have guided us this far, let us go farther with greater vigour & spirit to create an India of our dreams. On this #RepublicDay, let us strengthen our resolve to live up to the ideals of our Constitution. (2/3) #CitizenMukherjee," Mukherjee tweeted.

He said the dynamism of Indian Constitution is exemplified in the ideals of justice, liberty, equality and fraternity.

He said people must strive to protect and preserve these foundational ethics.

"The dynamism of our Constitution exemplified in the ideals of Justice, Liberty, Equality and Fraternity sets the tone of our development. We must strive to protect and preserve these foundational ethics," he said.

Mukherjee has been awarded the Bharat Ratna, the country's highest civilian honour, by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Besides Mukherjee, social activist Nanaji Deshmukh and legendary musician Bhupen Hazarika have also received the Bharat Ratna posthumously.

After the announcement on Friday, Pranab Mukherjee tweeted: "It is with a deep sense of humility and gratitude to the people of India that I accept this great honour #BharatRatna bestowed upon me. I have always said and I repeat, that I have got more from the people of our great country than I have given to them. #CitizenMukherjee (sic)."
