Narada case: Calcutta High Court to resume hearing on Wednesday
Kolkata/IBNS: A five-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court will on Wednesday resume hearing on the Narada case, in which two West Bengal Ministers, a popular lawmaker and a former Kolkata Mayor are under house arrest.
The five-judge bench started its hearing on Monday.
Earlier a two-judge Division Bench of the high court ordered house arrest of Firhad Hakim, Subrata Mukherjee, Madan Mitra and Sovan Chatterjee, who were arrested by the CBI on Monday.
Both Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, the two important ministers in the Mamata Banerjee government, have been allowed to discharge their administrative duties virtually from home.
Hakim is also the chairman of the board of administrators of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Last Monday, a special CBI court had granted bail to all four accused but the Calcutta High Court had put a stay on the bail late at night.
Meanwhile, the CBI on Monday filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the Calcutta High Court's order granting house arrest to the four veteran politicians.
News portal Narada News released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were seen allegedly taking bribes.
Questions are also raised as to why several politicians, who crossed over from the TMC to the country's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), were not arrested by the probe agency.
