Narada sting: CBI team visits TMC MP Aparupa Poddar's Bengal residence for interrogation

Kolkata, Aug 31 (IBNS): A three-member team, including a woman officer, of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday visited the house of Arambag Lok Sabha constituency Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Aparupa Poddar to question her in connection with the Narada sting operation, sources said.

They reached Poddar's home in Rishra, in Hooghly district of West Bengal, at around 11:15 am.

CBI sources said that the TMC lawmaker, who was seen taking money in the sting footage, is currently being quizzed by the Central investigation agency officials and her statement is being recorded.

Since Mar 14 last year, news portal- Narada News- released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were allegedly seen accepting bribes.

From the beginning, TMC leadership had claimed that the sting footage was doctored and a conspiracy of the opposition parties.

After getting direction from the Calcutta High Court and Supreme Court, the CBI has started a probe into the case.

On April 17, the investigation agency registered an FIR in connection with the case under several non-bailable sections against 12 influential leaders, cabinet ministers, MLAs and MPs of the TMC and one senior IPS officer, who were seen allegedly taking bribes in the sting footage, reports said.

Besides the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also registered a money laundering case in the Narada sting and currently investigating the case.
