Srinagar, Apr 19 (IBNS): The Kashmir valley on Sunday continues to be tense after the death of a teenager in clashes between protesters and police in Narbal on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday, officials said.
After initially maintaining silence on who opened fire on the teenager, a police spokesman on Saturday evening said preliminary investigation revealed that Constable Javaid Ahmad fired with his service rifle on directions of in-charge police party ASI Manzoor Ahmad in violation of laid down Standard Operating Procedure.

“Both the ASI and Constable have been arrested in the instant case and further investigation is underway. SHO Police Station Magam Inspector Khursheed ur Rehman has been attached for lack of supervision,” he said.

The state government has also ordered a magisterial inquiry into the death.

One person died on Saturday in Kashmir following an injury after police opened fire to disperse stone-throwing demonstrators during a daylong protest strike over the arrest of a separatist leader.

Police said around 24 people were injured in the clashes, and one of the three people injured after they opened fire died in hospital.

"Unfortunately, the injured later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital," a police spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Chairmen of both factions of Hurriyat Conference have called for a complete shutdown in Budgam district Sundayagainst the killing of Suhail Ahmad.

In a statement, Geelani termed the killing of Suhail as an “act of state terrorism” and appealed separatist leaders to assemble at Partap Park in LalChowk on Sunday at 2 pm to register their protest against the killing.

Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the killing as “cold blooded murder” and called for shutdown in Budgam district on Sunday.
