Berlin, July 13 (IBNS) Ahead of visiting Brazil to attend the BRICS summit, Narendra Modi arrived in Berlin on Sunday for an overnight stopover.

India's Ambassador to Germany Vijay Gokhale received Modi at Berlin airport.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) tweeted: "India's Ambassador to Germany Shri Vijay Gokhale and other officials received the Prime Minister at Berlin airport."

Earlier, leaving for Brazil, the Prime Minister said he considers this as an opportunity to discuss with the BRICS partners on how India can contribute to international efforts to address regional crises.

“I leave today for Brazil at the invitation of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff to attend the Sixth BRICS Summit being held in Fortaleza and Brasilia on 15-16 July 2014," the PM said ahead of his departure to Brazil.

He will hold meetings with the leaders of Brazil, China, Russia and South Africa during the visit.

Modi said India attaches high importance to the BRICS forum for promoting global economic growth, peace and stability. In the course of the past five summits and several ministerial and official processes, BRICS has made major strides in pursuit of these goals.
