New Delhi, Sept 27 (IBNS): The United Nations on Thursday conferred its highest environment award on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Congratulating Modi and other winners, the UN Environment has left a message on Instagram saying, "Congratulations to the 2018 UN Environment Champions of the Earth! These laureates are being recognized for their contribution to our planet 🌎🌍."

Modi is among seven who have received the award.

Reacting to the conferment of the award on him, Modi said: "I would like to express my gratitude to the global community for conferring this honour upon me. This honour is not meant for an individual but rather for the great Indian culture that has always taught the world about coexistence with nature and environment."
