Narendra Modi mourns former Sri Lankan PM Ratnasiri Wickremanayake's death

New Delhi, Dec 28 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday mourned the death of former Sri Lankan prime minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake.

PMO India tweeted: "Deepest condolences on demise of veteran politician and former Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake: PM @narendramodi."

As per the Official News Portal of Sri Lanka, the former PM  had been admitted to the ICU of a leading private hospital on Dec 21.

He passed away on Tuesday.

He was 83.

Ratnasiri Wickremanayake was the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka from 2000 to 2001 and again from 2005 to 2010, read the website.

President Maithripala Sirisena condoled the death of the leader and tweeted: " Veteran Politician Ratnasiri Wickremanayake was loved by his people for many decades. My condolences are with his loved ones and followers."

former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said: "Deeply saddened by the death of former Sri Lankan PM & veteran politician Ratnasiri Wickremanayake. My condolences to his family."
