Narendra Modi pays homage to Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Anerood Jugnauth

Indian PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid homage at the 'Samadhis' of Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Anerood Jugnauth at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanic Garden, Pamplemousses.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by Mauritian counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam for the wreath-laying function.

"On the occasion, Prime Minister Modi recalled the enduring legacies of the two leaders in the progress of Mauritius and building a robust foundation for India-Mauritius ties," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.

Following the wreath-laying ceremony, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam planted a tree under the initiative – "Ek Ped Maa ke Naam” – in the historic garden.

Mauritius PM Welcomes Modi At The Airport

Indian PM Narendra Modi reached Mauritius on Tuesday for a two-day official visit to the country, where his Mauritian counterpart Navin Ramgoolam welcomed him at the airport.

After arriving at the airport, Modi wrote on X: "Landed in Mauritius. I am grateful to my friend, PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, for the special gesture of welcoming me at the airport. This visit is a wonderful opportunity to engage with a valued friend and explore new avenues for collaboration in various sectors. "

National Day celebrations

Modi is visiting Mauritius at the invitation of PM Navin Ramgoolam.

He will be the chief guest at the National Day celebrations of the country on March 12.

A contingent of Indian Defence Forces will participate in the celebrations, along with a ship from the Indian Navy.
