Narendra Modi pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, says his 'teachings continue to illuminate our path'

Indian PM Narendra Modi on Monday remembered Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary and said his timeless teachings continue to illuminate the path of humanity.

"I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. His timeless teachings continue to illuminate our path. Mahatma Gandhi's impact is global, motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion," Modi wrote on X.

"May we always work towards fulfilling his dreams. May his thoughts enable every youngster be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over," he said.

President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid floral tributes to Gandhi in New Delhi's Rajghat.

Indian Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankar posted on X: "On #GandhiJayanti, as we pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, let us remember his principles of Truth & Non-violence which guided India’s freedom struggle. Let us pledge to uphold his vision of self-reliance & universal brotherhood for ever-greater progress of Bharat."
