Thane/UNI: The Navi Mumbai police have arrested two people for allegedly murdering a housewife from Navi Mumbai in cold blood last week.

On July 23, one Mahendra Tiwari filed a missing complaint of his son Ambuj (28) and his daughter-in-law 28) with the Rabale police station, who then registered a case and took up the investigation.

During the course of investigation, the police traced Ambuj to Ghansoli on July 28, police said.

The further interrogation of the accused revealed that on that day his friend came home and UNhim and both of them put the body of the victim in a plastic drum and loaded it in a tempo belonging to Choubey and took it towards Lonavala, and dumped it in the bushes on the Mumbai – Pune Highway.

When asked the whereabouts of his wife, he initially gave evasive replies but later confessed to brutally killing her on July 23 at the house of one of his friends, Shrikant Choube (24) at Ghansoli.

After this disclosure, the Rabale police upgraded the 'missing' complaint to that of murder under IPC sections 302, 201 and 34 and formed teams for investigation.

Then, at the instance of Ambuj, the body of Neelam was recovered from a drum that was dumped in the bushes near Mil Thakurwadi, Pune-Mumbai Highway, Khopoli. His friend Shrikant Choube was arrested from Ghansoli.

Police officer further said that Ambuj worked as a quality supervisor in a company in Mumbai and the motive behind the killing as per preliminary investigations revealed that he doubted the character of his wife and they often used to quarrel over the same, leading to the brutal murder.

The duo were produced before a magistrate, who remanded them into the police custody till August 7, sources added.

Further investigations into the case were being conducted by the local police, it was stated.
