NDFB(S) involved in the Kokrajhar carnage: Assam CM

Guwahati, Aug 6 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said that vital information and contact numbers obtained by the police from the gunned down terrorist point to direct involvement of NDFB(S) in the Kokrajhar violence, according to media reports.

In a statement, the Assam CM, who also holds the home portfolio, said that the involvement of other groups with NDFB(S) would also come to light soon as police has got vital clues, which could lead to a breakthrough in investigation.
          
Sonowal said that the police acted swiftly and gunned down one terrorist at the site of the incident.
          
In view of the Kokrajhar incident and the upcoming Independence Day,the Assam CM asked the civil and police administration to be on high alert and to beef up security to thwart the sinister designs of anti-national forces out to create disturbance in the state, media reported.

Sonowal directed the DCs and SPs to review the law and order situation on a regular basis and to take all possible measures to prevent any untoward incident.
          
Sonowal said that his government would not compromise with terrorism.

“Ours is a zero tolerance approach towards terrorism. We are fully committed towards protecting the life and property of the people of the State and we consider it as our first and foremost duty,” Sonowal said.

Meanwhile, Sonowal visited Guwahati Medical College and Hospital to inquire about those injured in the Kokrajhar incident.
          
The Assam CM visited the wards and ICU to take stock of the health condition of the five injured people who were brought from Kokrajhar to GMCH on Friday and directed the health authorities to provide the best of medical care and treatment to them.

He wished the injured persons speedy recovery. The state government will bear all the expenses for the medical treatment of the injured.
          
Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present during the visit of the Chief Minister.
          
Meanwhile, the Assam CM directed the district administration of Kokrajhar to release bySaturday itself Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh to the seriously injured.
