Aizawl/IBNS/UNI: The Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government in Mizoram will be sworn in at Raj Bhavan here on Friday, official sources said on Tuesday.

Sources said that Chief Minister-designate Lalduhoma has intimated that the swearing-in ceremony will be held at 11.00 AM on Dec 8.

State Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will administer the oath of office to the Chief Minister and Ministers.

The meeting of senior officials chaired by state chief secretary Renu Sharma on Tuesday held discussions on the preparations for the swearing-in ceremony.

All the 27 elected ZPM legislators will hold a meeting in Aizawl at 8.00 pm on Tuesday when they will formally elect Lalduhoma as leader of the ZPM legislature party paving the way for the former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer to become the Chief Minister of the state.

Lalduhoma will meet the Governor on Wednesday at the Raj Bhavan in Aizawl to formally stake his claim to form the next government.

Chief Minister Zoramthanga had already tendered his resignation to the governor on Monday after it became apparent that the people’s mandate went against him.

Lalduhoma will become the first chief minister who neither belongs to the Congress nor the Mizo National Front (MNF) since Mizoram attained statehood in 1987.

Meanwhile, the ten legislators of the Mizo National Front (MNF) party held a meeting Tuesday and elected former School Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte as leader of the MNF legislature party.

MNF was defeated in the election to the 40-member state legislature by the Zoram People’s Conference (ZPM) but remains the second-largest party in the state.
