NIA officials arrest 9 Al-Qaeda operatives from West Bengal, Kerala
New Delhi: National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials have arrested nine Al Qaeda terrorists while conducting multiple raids in Kerala’s Ernakulam and West Bengal’s Murshidabad regions.
All nine terrorists, who were associated with Pakistan sponsored module of Al-Qaeda, were arrested on Saturday early morning.
Six were arrested from West Bengal and three were nabbed from Kerala.
The terrorists arrested from West Bengal are Najmus Sakib, Abu Sufiyan, Mainul Mondal, Leu Yean Ahmed, Al Mamun Kamal and Atitur Rehman.
The ones arrested from Kerala are Murshid Hasan, Iyakub Biswas, Mosaraf Hossen.
"The group was planning to undertake terrorist attacks at vital installations in India with an aim to kill innocent people and strike terror in their minds," the NIA said.
As per preliminary investigation, the NIA found that the terrorists were planning to undertake attacks in multiple places including the National Capital Region (NCR).
Large quantity of incriminating materials including digital devices, documents, sharp weapons have been seized from the terrorists' possession.
The arrested terrorists will be produced in the concerned courts in West Bengal and Kerala.
