NIA questions Muslim Fundamentalists at Puzhal Prison
Chennai, June 18 (UNI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials on Tuesday questioned Muslim Fundamentalists lodged in Puzhal Central prison to ascertain whether they had any links with the Easter day bombings in Churches and hotels in Sri Lanka.
A team of NIA officials questioned Binal Malik, Banna Ismail and 'Police' Fakrudeen.
This followed raids in Coimbatore and Madurai and arrest of six people for supporting and propogating the ideology of ISIS/Daish.
The NIA had registered a case on May 30 against six accused persons for ropagating ideology of ISIS/ Daish on social media with the intention of recruiting vulnerable youth into ISIS/ Daish for carrying out terrorist attacks in South India especially, in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
It was also learnt that some of the accused persons and their associates were in touch with Zahran Hashim and his associates, over social media, with the intention of furthering the objectives of ISIS/Daish in India.
On June 12, NIA had conducted raids in this case at seven locations in Coimbatore City, and incriminating materials, including books and documents were seized from the houses and work places of the accused.
They were questioned regarding the incriminating materials recovered during searches and the content of their social media accounts.
Based on the facts revealed hitherto regarding the pro-ISIS activities of accused Shiek Hidayathullah.Y (38), resident of Kulanthai Goundar Street, South Ukkadam, Coimbatore, he was arrested in this case.
Scrutiny of the documents from his house, has revealed that he 3 has remained associated with proscribed terrorist organization Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) as well.
In a related developments, the Coimbatore police also arrested three suspected Islamic State (IS) sympathisers last week for allegedly planning to turn suicide bombers and target churches, temples and public places in Coimbatore.
Police have registered an FIR against them on thesecharges.
The FIR alleged that the trio had discussed launching attacks using trucks, possibly inspired by similar attacks in 2016 carried out by IS in Nice in France and in Berlin in Germany, and eliminating ‘kafirs’ (non-believers) using knives.
It also alleged that the accused--Mohammed Hussain (25) from Ukkadam, A Shajahan (25) from Anbu Nagar and Sheik Safiullah (36) from Karumbukkadai--were planning to kill those involved in intelligence-gathering operations.
