NITI Ayog CEO calls on Assam CM

Guwahati, Mar 15 (IBNS): NITI Ayog Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant on Wednesday called on Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at his office in Assam Secretariat and discussed various issues related to implementation of Act East Policy, facilitation of major investments, promotion of trade and business and development in implementing 'Ease of Doing Business' in the state.

Stating that the State government is striving to realise Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming Northeast region into an organic hub, Chief Minister Sonowal highlighted the plans to develop bamboo based industries and rural tourism sector to generate employment opportunities for the youth of the state. 

Urging the NITI Ayog CEO to take proactive role in developing the communication and transportation infrastructure of the state, Sonowal said that improvement in communication would bring huge developmental benefits to the state.

The Assam CM also informed that some key sectors have been identified by the government for making investment and the NITI Ayog must also pitch in for developing the same.

The NITI Ayog CEO stated that with flagship programmes like ‘Start Up India’ the industry sector of the state would be taken towards a high growth trajectory and he requested the Chief Minister to place proposals for facilitating investments in some key identified sectors with high growth potential.

The Chief Minister directed the Additional Chief Secretary in charge of Industries and Commerce Department to take all necessary steps in this regard.

Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Hrishikesh Goswami, Chief Secretary V.K. Pipersenia and other top officials of the state government were present on the occasion.
