No provision to arrest Lalit Modi : BJP claims
Media reports quoted BJP sources as saying that since the former IPL chief is facing cases of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) violations, there is no provision for his arrest.
The party has, however, said that the government is considering stronger money laundering cases against Lalit Modi so that there is a possibility of his arrest.
The government has been under attack of the Congress for allegedly trying to shield Modi. The Congress has also demanded the resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje for their alleged links with the former cricket administrator, who the party says is a "fugitive."
However, the BJP has rallied behind its two senior leaders saying the charges brought against both of them are "baseless."
Party's heavyweight leader and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that there is "nobody tainted," making it apparent that no move is likely to be taken to probe the allegations against Swaraj and Raje.
