Srinagar/IBNS: In order to celebrate the unity between the Indian Army and the public, the inauguration of Udan Stitching Centre, Markut was carried out by Gulnaaza Begum, Sarpanch of the Markut village.

The initiative aims at preserving the traditional craft of Gurez and showcasing it to the world.

The ladies were implored to make Gurezi caps, pillow covers, bedsheets and curtains with Kashmiri crewelwork, Pherans and other handicrafts during the winters.

All of their creations will be collected by the Army and delivered to the AWWA shops in Srinagar and at the Log Hut Cafe at Dawar in Gurez.

“This congenial initiative is testimony to the unity and bond shared by the Army and the Awam in Gurez and will be a stepping stone towards an 'Atmanirbhar Gurez' by uplifting, skilling and providing self-employment for the womenfolk of the valley,” the Indian Army statement said.
