'Not joining any other party': Arvinder Singh Lovely after resigning as Delhi Congress chief

New Delhi: Arvinder Singh Lovely, who resigned from the position of Delhi Congress chief earlier today, has made it clear that he is not joining any other political party, media reports.

Lovely said that he has not stepped down from his primary membership of the Congress and merely resigned from his leadership role in protest against the alliance with Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party.

"This pain is not just mine. It belongs to all leaders of the Congress. I shared it with Mallikarjun Kharge in a letter," Lovely said at a press conference, reported NDTV.

"And those of you spreading rumours that I have done this because i was upset over ticket distribution, you know I introduced the candidates three days ago at a press conference," he added.

In a letter to Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, “Lovely highlighted that several AAP ministers are in jail due to corruption allegations. Despite this, the Congress allied with Arvind Kejriwal's party for the Lok Sabha elections."

Feeling incapable of safeguarding the welfare of Delhi Congress workers, he declared his resignation from the position.

Lovely further said that since announcing his resignation, nearly 35 leaders have reached out to him or held meetings with him.

Thanking them, he said he has stepped down only from the post of the Delhi Congress chief and is still with the party. "Right now, I have no plan to join any other party," he added.
