Not saying we won't align with BJP again: Uddhav Thackeray
Mumbai/IBNS: Stirring political speculations amid the functioning of Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)-Congress government in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said he was not opposed to the idea of aligning with the friend-turned foe Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in future.
In an interview to Sena mouthpiece Saamana, Thackeray said as quoted by Times Now, "I am not saying we will never unite with them (BJP) again."
"If they had fulfilled their promise and not lied to me, I would have never become the Chief Minister. I didn't ask for anything more than what was decided."
The Sena had earlier criticised the Union Budget 2020 by the Narendra Modi government as a "mere play of words".
Despite being in the government with the ideologically disparate forces, Thackeray's party attacked its ally Congress on a number of issues in recent times.
One such instance is when the Sena was offended by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's reference to Hindu nationalist Veer Savarkar while hitting out Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.
In reply to Gandhi's comment, Sena MP and spokesperson Sanjay Raut warned the former Congress chief saying, "No one should disrespect Veer Savarkar."
The Sena, NCP and Congress came together to form the government last year after the BJP had turned down Thackeray's demand of 50:50 power share in the government and rotational Chief Ministership.
