Odisha: Four die in a road accident

Balasore, Apr 7 (UNI) In a road accident, at least four persons, including a couple, died and three others sustained critical injuries after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a truck on NH-60 near Kundapur in Basta area late last night.

The deceased have been identified as Tofani Rana and his wife Kalpana Rana of Paikasidha village of Jaleswar, Subiranjan Parida of Churamara village and the driver Rabi Rana of Khadagapala village under Basta police station.

The injured persons including two minors were rushed to the district headquarter hospital and later shifted to SCB medical college and hospital at Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

The mishap occurred when the members of two families were returning to their homes from Puri after having darshan of Ahri Jagannath temple.

The accident reportedly occurred between 2 am and 2:30 am when seven members of two families from Churamara and Paikasidha villages were returning from Puri.

Although the exact reason of the accident is unclear, it is suspected that the mishap took place when the vehicle rammed into a stationary lorry parking on roadside. The car overturned after hitting the truck, killing two on the spot.

Two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment at Basta hospital.

In another incident, a motorcyclist died on the spot near Jyoti hospital today after his bike had a head on collision with a speeding lorry coming from opposite direction.

The deceased has was working in Dialysis unit in the District headquarter hospital. The accident occurred when he was heading towards Kuruda from Balasore town end.
