One died and 20 others injured after bus carrying people for NRC hearings met with accident

Guwahati, Aug 5 (IBNS): One died and 20 others including several children were injured while a bus carrying at least 40 people travelling towards Golaghat district in Assam for the National Register of Citizens (NRC) hearing met with an accident at 9th mile area, outskirts of Guwahati last night.

According to the reports, the bus left from Sontali area in Assam’s Kamrup district carrying the people, who were served re-verification notices by the NRC authorities to appear before the designated authorities in Golaghat district on August 6, was skidded off the road and rammed into the divider.

At least 21 persons including several children were injured in the accident and they were rushed to Guwahati Medical College hospital.

One person succumbed to his injuries at hospital.
