Oxygen crisis: Kejriwal thanks Centre for raising Delhi's Oxygen quota; Sisodia accuses Haryana govt of holding up oxygen tanker

Delhi/IBNS: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday thanked the Central government for increasing Delhi's oxygen quota amid SOS calls from several private and city government hospitals over depleting medical oxygen for Covid-19 patients.

“Central govt has increased Delhi’s quota of oxygen. We r very grateful to centre for this (sic),” Kejriwal tweeted.

Delhi's oxygen quota has been increased from 378 MT to 500 MT, but still below the 700 MT it had sought.

According to reports, the additional oxygen will arrive from Odisha.

Hours before the announcement, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had accused Haryana of stopping oxygen supply from a plant in Faridabad.

Similar allegations were also raised by several hospitals in Delhi that the Haryana government was not allowing vendors to supply oxygen to them.

Sisodia said "Delhi should get the quota that it was meant to get" as reports of a Haryana official holding up an oxygen tanker at its border emerged.

"There should be no issues between state governments on this. Each state should get its own quota... we should all fight Corona together, not fight between ourselves," Sisodia said, according to an NDTV report.

He urged the Centre to intervene and resolve the issue.

Hours ago Haryana government accused Delhi of "looting" an oxygen tanker bound for Faridabad, the NDTV report said.

"We are being forced to give our oxygen to Delhi. First, we'll complete our needs, then give to others... From now, I have ordered police protection for all tankers," Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said.

As crisis calls for oxygen from several hospitals in Delhi, including St Stephens, Holy Family Hospital, Sir Gangaram Hospital were received, Sisodia said hospitals should be busy treating patients instead of wasting time and resources in tracking oxygen tankers.
