Pakistan: Hafiz Saeed's house arrest extended

| | Aug 02, 2017, at 12:51 am
Islamabad, Aug 1 (IBNS): The Pakistan government has extended the house arrest of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Mohammad Saeed, media reports said.

He was placed under house arrest on January 31 for 90 days.

It was later extended by three months.

The house arrest was about to expire on July 27.

The notification, a copy of which is available with Pakistan's DawnNews, reads that the Counter Terrorism Department has reported that "keeping in view the expected release of the said activist and other leaders of the said organisation, workers of the organisation have planned to spread chaos in the country."

The notification further said: "On release, he (Saeed) is likely to glorify his activities for the said organisation and continuation of his activities are likely to create unrest in public."

Saeed is suspected of masterminding the attack Mumbai in 2008 that killed 166 people.
