Pakistan seeks hydroxychloroquine from India to combat Coronavirus outbreak

Islamabad/IBNS: As the novel Coronavirus cases spiked in Pakistan, Islamabad has sought Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) from neighbouring India, media reports said.

This comes after the United States and Brazil asked for the anti-malarial drug from India.

After sending HCQ tablets to the US, India will export the drug, believed to be effective in the treatment of COVID-19, to Malaysia as well.

Malaysia will receive 89,100 tablets in the first order.

Pakistan has become the latest country to seek India's help after the Islamic country witnessed almost 6,000 COVID-19 positive cases and over 100 deaths.

India is the largest producer of the medicine which is considered efficacious in treating COVID-19.

Last week, US President Donald Trump warned India of retaliatory action if it did not release the medicine for the US.

The US President has touted HCQ as a potential weapon against COVI-19, after which its demand skyrocketed across the world.
