Party leaders defecting due to disrespect: Trinamool Congress MP Satabdi Roy turns rebel again
Kolkata/IBNS: With barely few weeks left for the West Bengal polls to start, Trinamool Congress MP Satabdi Roy Friday said disrespect was one of the reasons for which several leaders have deserted the ruling party over the last few months.
Roy, a three-term MP from Birbhum, said, "Leaders are leaving the party after getting disrespected. The party should have reached out to them. Disrespect is the common reason for leaving the party. There may be some other agendas too."
"But all leaders should support the party supremo at this juncture," she also said, adding, "No doubt, Mamata Banerjee will become the Chief Minister for the third term. There is a huge craze among people for her."
Roy, who has a strenuous relationship with Trinamool strongman in Birbhum, Anubrata Mondal, turned rebel earlier in January and was about to meet Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah.
However after meeting Trinamool's new crisis manager parliamentarian Saugata Roy and party's de facto number two Abhishek Banerjee, Roy had backtracked from her decision and remained in the partyfold.
Over the last few months, at least 15 Trinamool leaders including heavyweight Suvendu Adhikari have deserted the party and joined the BJP.
