New Delhi: Congress leader PC Chacko announced his resignation from the party on Wednesday.

He made the announcement just days before Kerala votes to elect a new Assembly.

"It is very difficult for a sincere Congress worker to survive. Merit is not a concern at all," Chacko was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times while addressing a press conference.

Kerala will vote to elect new members of the 140-seat Assembly on Apr 6.

Counting of votes will be held on May 2.
