Guwahati, Sept 14 (IBNS) : Reiterating that government’s own discretion is not enough for ensuring good governance, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday said that people’s participation and feedback are equally important to make governance accountable for service delivery and to bring visible change.

Participating in an interaction programme with leading citizens and different organizations of Dibrugarh city, Sonowal said that people must contribute through their suggestions and recommendations to erase the faults in governance and make the government deliver on its duties.

Saying that common citizens are an important part of the administrative system the Assam CM called on the civil society to take active part in governance and keep a strict vigil on the workings of the government by pointing out the faults and shortcomings.

He also said that the government believes in facilitating an open environment where people can freely voice their opinions and concerns regarding government activities.

Stressing that the present government is determined to root out corruption from the system, Sonowal urged the people to come forward and help the government achieve this goal.

Requesting the people to strongly desist from encouraging corrupt practices in government offices by offering bribe to officials, the Assam CM reiterated that government will act strongly against all corruption complaints if there is evidence of wrong doing.

In order to make an inclusive society where people from all sections of the society are ensured of equal development and social security Sonowal said that this government would leave no stone unturned to live upto the expectation of the people and work tirelessly to uphold the basic rights of the citizens.
